Eating out with children can sometimes strike fear in the heart of parents but it needn’t be stressful especially when we have a host of fabulous restaurants in Southampton that are ideal for children too. Here are five that are perfect:
Bill’s is somewhere so many love thanks to its beautiful decor, friendly staff and great British menu. Be it breakfast, lunch or dinner, there is always something perfect for children. There’s a kid's breakfast menu and an all-day menu available - choose from their own little Bill’s breakfast or something a little sweeter with Bill’s breakfast stack served with berries and bananas. For dinner, it costs just £6.95 for two courses and you can choose from hamburgers, buttermilk chicken or pasta followed by a little treat for dessert. All menu details as well as allergens can be found on their website or ask a member of staff.
Mettricks is fast becoming a must-visit foodie destination and what we love about it is how fabulous it is for children. The vibe is very much ‘Southampton’s Living Room’ meaning it’s a lovely and relaxed setting to visit with children of any age. The menu options are smaller than some but for breakfast and brunch, it has core choices such as mini breakfasts, pancakes and pastries. What child doesn’t want to cosy up in a Chesterfield armchair with a babyccino?
Award-winning Uni Kebab is more than just a restaurant and because of that reason, it’s an excellent spot for all the family. The family-run business prides itself on its authenticity and community spirit whilst using only the freshest ingredients and traditional methods to create delicious, homemade dishes everyone will enjoy. It’s incredibly welcoming, our children love the food and the atmosphere is always joyous but relaxed. It is absolutely worth the visit.

Italian excellency on the marina, Figurati is modern dining with a relaxed, family flair. Renowned for its pasta dishes and Roast Sundays - it’s a lovelier if not a touch fancier spot to enjoy with all the family. The children’s menu features a wider selection than most with delicious pastas, pizzas, burgers and sides included. The baby change facilities are also really brilliant and each time we’ve visited with children the staff have been so fun with them both. It makes all the difference!

Nutritious and delicious, Cafe Thrive is a vegan foodie dream spot. Serving great coffee and a huge array of plant-based meals as well as a deli selection and sweet treats, it’s a favourite of ours for a quick lunch. They have a brilliant Under 12’s menu with reasonable prices and if you’re looking at introducing more plant-based meals to children in a fun way then Cafe Thrive is an excellent place to start.
There are many great places to eat in Southampton with children and this is just a starter guide, I’m hoping to share even more real soon! Just remember, parts may be stressful but if there’s one bit of advice I could give, it’s to eat out with your children. It’s such a brilliant experience for all and they get to experiment with food they may not have at home.
