For Summer 2024, Wild in Art will be bringing yet another exciting public art trail of light houses along the streets of Southampton and Cowes on the Isle of Wight to raise money for Southampton Hospitals Charity.
The trail will take place between 13 July – 1 September 2024.
Being a coastal city, the lighthouse has maritime relevance and historically provided safe passage for sailors.
In addition to the maritime theme, the symbolism of a lighthouse represents a beacon of hope, strength, and safety, and this is what we feel our hospitals provide for our patients.
The lighthouses are unique sculptures and have been designed by some of the UK's most talented artists, schools, and community groups, each sponsored by a business or individual.
This outdoor family-friendly trail will be open to everyone to explore and enjoy and is fully accessible.
Discover 40 eight foot high lighthouses and 40 mini lighthouses on the #LightTheSouth art trail.
To begin, simply download the free Light the South app.
The app will give you access to an interactive map showing the location of all of the sculptures. Each lighthouse features a plaque with a 4-digit code where you can collect a digital version of the sculpture to unlock rewards and special milestones along the way, with some evening giving you exclusive discounts at local businesses.
You can also track your steps and progress with the trail pedometer. Download the trail app here.
In September, each of the lighthouses will be gathered together for a Farewell event, giving everyone one last chance to see all the designs.
They will then be auctioned off during a Grand Auction event which will raise funds for Southampton Hospitals Charity. The money raised will go towards funding life-saving equipment and research to give patients the best care and experience possible.
Full details about the Lighthouses and the trail will be published here soon.
