Southampton Science and Engineering Festival...

Southampton Science and Engineering Festival (SOTSEF) is for the first time going digital! 

Running from 22 May until Saturday 25 July 2020, SOTSEF celebrates the amazing world of science and engineering with a series of activities including virtual tours, downloadable resources, talks, podcasts, live debates, performances and live Q&A sessions. Writing Events With ArtfulScribe...

ArtfulScribe is hosting a number of online events to connect writers and writing, suiting for all different ages and abilities. If the lockdown life has brought out a passion for writing then why not sign up to a workshop and unleash your creative side!

Mayflower Creative Writers: Monday 7-9pm, 18 to 25 years

ArtfulScribe Junior Writers Club: Wednesday 9.30 - 11am, 7 to 11 years
Led by Susmita Bhattacharya, this is a new group aimed at primary school children featuring fun ways to engage and get creative with words, encouraging young people’s voices to be heard. ArtfulScribe Young Writers Online: Wednesday 11.30 - 1pm
Aimed at Secondary School and 6thForm college-aged participants, led by Tabitha Hayward featuring creative approaches to generate new work for publication, performance, and personal satisfaction (all genres). For sign-up details please emailyoungwritersonline@artfulscribe.co.uk.


SO:Write Women: Thursday 11am - 1pm
Weeks 1 and 3 of each month led by Joanna Barnard. A group tailored towards creating, sharing and celebrating women’s writing in a safe and supportive environment. For sign-up details please email sowritewomen@artfulscribe.co.uk.

Writing for Wellbeing: Thursday 11am - 1pm
Weeks 2 and 4 of each month led by Joanna Barnard. A qualified counsellor and award-winning novelist leads these sessions to encourage new and advanced writers to develop a toolbox of skills for creative self-expression during times of crisis. Participants in a recent pilot described the sessions as ‘validating’, ‘healing’, ‘inspiring’ and more. Mayflower Young Writers: Saturday 9am - 9.45am, 11 to 14 years. Saturday 11am - 1pm, 15 to 18 years.
Led by award-winning author Susmita Bhattacharya. A Hampshire-based group for young writers who normally meet at Mayflower Theatre during term-time and work towards project-based outcomes including publishing an anthology and writing for performance. HYDC are looking for young dancers aged between 13 and 21 who are committed and passionate about dancing!

ORB is also looking for aspiring and passionate young male dancers aged 14-25 to join the new ORB cohort.

Can you sing?

The Southampton Music Hub has a song, 'The Greatest Friend', which they are asking families to sing, dance and sign along to. Why not see if you can join in? See here for more details.

City Eye: Lockdown Days brings the opportunity for everyone in and around Southampton to share up to 90 seconds of film with them - something extraordinary or very ordinary, the high days and the low ones. They will then use your film to build an archive record of this unique time, of life during the city during COVID-19. See more here.

Arts Award Discover at Home
You can also get creative with the Arts Award Discover virtual programme aimed at people aged 5 - 25 encouraging you to explore the wonderful world of art. Take part in activities, learn about other artists and share your creations with each other whilst at home. Find out more here.

Why not take on the ABP Southampton Half Marathon?

You can run the 13.1 miles in one go if you can or over multiple days and then you can get a 2020 Finisher tee and medal. There's also 10k and full marathon options too!

Showcase Music School

Weekly Youth Choir
Aimed at children aged 6 - 18 Showcase Music School are running weekly youth choir rehearsals where children can learn and develop their singing skills and record their parts for a weekly video performance. Find out more here.

Virtual Youth Orchestra
Showcase Music School is running a free weekly Virtual Youth Orchester with parts available to all abilities who play all different types of instruments. So far 2,200 people registered from 22 countries have contributed to 15 pieces of music in just 10 weeks! Mayflower Theatre and City Eye Young Filmmakers group is going online! 

They are offering a free taster session so why not give it a go, see more here. Then if you find that you love it, you can join their brilliant group for regular sessions with guided through weekly zoom sessions to explore the film making process, looking at script writing, story boarding, filming and editing.
