Our orchestra is the stylish, London-based Docklands Sinfonia, and David Gibson conducts.The concert opens with George Frideric Handel’s Silete Venti, a wonderfully expressive cantata for solo soprano voice that ranks among Handel’s finest compositions.Next, the first of the two choral items: Johann Sebastian Bach’s Magnificat in D, a splendid and jubilant composition scored for five soloists, a five-part choir, and (for its time) a large orchestra. It’s a piece that truly showcases Bach’s unparalleled mastery of vocal and instrumental interplay.Finally, we present a piece that’s renowned for its vibrant choral harmonies and spirited orchestration.
