Mind Over Matter is an independent, self funded project which breaks down stigma and widens the conversation around mental health by discussing it through Spoken Word Poetry, Hip Hop, and Song.
The project was founded in London, in 2017 by Rapper and Spoken Word artist, Fisky, the day he got sober after a twenty-year battle with addiction.
Since beginning, the event has helped people with depression, addiction, anxiety, and various other mental health conditions by creating a safe space to share and often opening difficult conversations.
After the success of our first International event in Melbourne, Australia last year and witnessing the positive effect it had on people as it does in London, it sparked an interest in taking MoM outside London more to connect with the Poetry, Live Music scenes and Mental Health Professionals both Domestically and Internationally - to gain a wider understanding of the problems faced in different locations / territories, how they're dealt with and to discuss the positive outcomes of further collaboration between the Clinical and Creative sides of Mental Health.
Open Mic & Headline performances from local Rapper - Katie, Becksy Becks - a member of Londons unrivalled Flo Poet collective and a very special guest performance....we can't tell you who it is...all we can say is it's a well known UK Hip Hop Artist who has performed at MoM before.

Becksy Becks is a member of Londons unrivalled Flo Poet collective and a self-proclaimed Bedroom Poet who is all about alliteration. Driven by her 3 life pillars of Laughter, Love and Literature, her humble poetry is a collection of thoughts that occasionally rhyme, and take you through a verity of personal experiences and a unique imagination. To best describe Becksy Becks is to call her a Dancer by (Day)Dream, Poet by Passion and Awesome by everything else. Daughter of a diplomat and youngest sister to four other siblings, Becksy Becks relocated from with her family form South Sudan to the UK at the age 3, and began reading and writing shortly after. Since then paper and pen have become vital tools in maintaining her reality.
A raw and brutally honest rapper, a realist in a world that's too scared to realise it. No holds barred and no bars to hold her. After a cruel and unjust fight with social services that ended with the heartbreaking forced adoption of her bay boy, she has turned her back on the system and vowed to use her upset and anger to go to war the only way she knows how. After spending years under the microscope and cast off by so many "so called" professionals judging her with a patronising and narcissistic attitude, with nothing left to lose she's here to tell her story and finally release her feelings through her clever lyricism and fiery performances. This girl spits as hard as anyone in the game.
