2022 marks 25 years since the legendary SS Canberra was withdrawn from service, and 40 years since she returned from a key role in the Falklands War.
The Ocean Liner Society will mark this with a unique event "Canberra - A Celebration", a day of talks and reminiscences in her home port of Southampton.
Contributions from leading naval architect Stephen Payne, the present CEO of Harland and Wolff, John Wood, design historian Professor Bruce Peter, Commodore Ian Gibb, Captain Rory Smith, Cruise Director Ian Fraser, Staff Captain Martin Reed and Chief Radio/Electrotechnical Officer Alan Mackenzie of Canberra, and liner historians Clive Harvey and Chris Mason.
Places are limited and admission will be by advance purchased ticket only. This full day event will include refreshments and a buffet lunch.
Venue: Masonic Hall, Albion Place, Southampton, SO14 2DD
Timing: Sat 30th July 2022. Doors open 09:30, talks start at 10:00. Event closes at 17:30.
More details on the programme and approximate timings will be available on the Ocean Liner Society website in due course - www.ocean-liner-Society.com
