At the heart of Ofsted’s new education inspection framework (EIF) is the new ‘quality of education’ judgement.

This event is a joint venture between Southern Counties Region Committee and the Hampshire and IoW Science Learning Partnership, led by Saint George Catholic College, Southampton.

At the heart of Ofsted’s new education inspection framework (EIF) is the new ‘quality of education’ judgement, the purpose of which is to “put a single conversation about education at the centre of inspection. This conversation draws together curriculum, teaching, assessment and standards.” Ofsted’s working definition of the curriculum uses the concepts of ‘intent’, ‘implementation’ and ‘impact’ to recognise that “the curriculum passes through different states: it is conceived, taught and experienced”. This Science Learning Partnership/Association for Science Education event will focus on how schools can review and refine their science curriculum in light of the new arrangements.

Dr Andy Chandler-Grevatt is a Senior Lecturer in Science Education at the University of Brighton, a member of the ASE 11-19 committee and sits on two curriculum working groups for Ofsted and Oxford University Press. Andy will give a keynote lecture on, “What is a good science curriculum and how schools can respond to recent thinking on curriculum?”

The keynote will be followed by two parallel sessions for primary and secondary schools with case studies of how schools are approaching this task, and a joint action planning plenary.

Delegates will then be free to browse the Annual Science and Engineering Day at the University of Southampton.

You will be able to:

Consider what is a good science curriculum Hear from two schools on how they are approaching reviewing and refining their science curriculum

Take part in a joint action planning session
