It is that time of year again and Southampton is a magical place to be during the Christmas period. The streets come alive with glistening lights hung across the city centre, huge Christmas trees and enough festive activities and events for everyone looking to make their Christmas feel extra special this year.
Follow this page to discover what Southampton has to offer this year from the Christmas Market and Theatre shows to late-night shopping times and special Christmas events.
Returning once again to Southampton is the ever popular Christmas Market. With over 40 independent stalls offering a vast range of unique and hand-made gifts as well as some delicious seasonal food and drink.
The chalets are open every day from the 14th of November to the 23rd of December from 10am to 8pm and the bars stay open until 10pm. This Christmas Market also offers something that no other UK Christmas Market does – a flying Santa! Yes that’s right, Santa himself takes to the skies over the city centre right above the Christmas Market for all to enjoy.
There are two Flying Santa shows every day:
Monday - Saturday: 5pm and 7pm
Sundays: 4pm and 6pm
Each show lasts approximately 15 minutes, subject to weather conditions. After each of his performances, Santa visits the market and gives sweets to the children at the huge Advent Calendar - provided they have been good!
