Go alfresco in Southampton

With the government roadmap set to continue and outside spaces at pubs, restaurants and cafes being given the green light to re-open to customers from 12 April, we thought we’d explore some of the places you can enjoy a spot of al fresco dining around the city.

We recommend checking opening times and dates with the restaurant/café prior to arriving and booking in advance (unless otherwise specified) is strongly advised to avoid disappointment. 

Bedford Place/Carlton Place

With the Bedford Place/Carlton Road area road closure pilot scheme in place, you can enjoy more opportunities to eat outside. Sit down with some food or drink on the benches and take in the surroundings of the exciting new public art road painting project, colourful bollards and pretty planters as well as the extra lighting that's now in place. Within the pedestrianised area, find:

Fever and Vibe - outdoor area open for drinks

Piecarumba - reopening from 12 April

Popsi’s Pizza – now taking bookings for their outside seating area.

Revolutions - are back and their outside space is opening from 12 April for walk-ins only.

Smugglers Inn - To start with, they will be taking outdoor bookings only. This means that they will only be accepting bookings and tables in their garden, alongside additional seating on the newly pedestrianised Carlton Place.

The Black Phoenix Pub - outside area open on 12 April on a walk-in basis

The Cricketers Arms – tables in the rear patio and in front of the pub will be open from 12 April.

XOXO – now with doubled outside seating capacity. Pre-booking is strongly advised via their website.

Brewdog - First come first serve on their new outdoor seating area from 12 April - also 241 on vegan/veggie main dishes on Mondays!

Giddy Bridge – this Wetherspoon’s pub will be opening its outside space from 12 April.

Halladay's Tearooms - limited seating outside, walk-ins only

Orange Rooms - Food, cocktails and music in their brand new 'Outside Orange' area, opening 23rd Apil. Book here. 

Starbucks - limited seating outside in their London Road branch 

The Nest Coffee House - A few tables outside to enjoy hot drinks and vegan doughnuts.

The Retro Cafe - opening from 12 April on Bedford Place

The Social - limited seating outside

Tokyo – Reopening from 12 April, weather dependent. Walk-ins welcome but bookings advised for weekends

The Alexandra Southampton - this traditional pub on Bellevue Road has opened its outdoor beer garden (with a marquee!)

Cafe Parfait - open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5pm for their Roof Terrace Sessions

Belgium and Blues - will have a small handful of tables out on the street as well as takeout available on their full range of keg, cider, bottles and cans and freshly canned draft beer.

L’Osteria – open for outdoor dining, although not taking bookings.
