Have you got tickets for the UEFA Women's EURO 2022 games in Southampton this summer?
If you’ve got some extra time during your visit, make the most of being in the city and experience the culture of Southampton before and after the game.
Whether your goal is to soak up some history, enjoy global flavours, or keep up the energy with some team activities, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at any time of day.
If you’re looking for a delicious sit-down meal before kick-off or after the final whistle, there are plenty of places to choose from in Southampton’s city centre and within walking distance (or a short taxi/e-scooter ride) from St Mary’s Stadium.
From enjoying a meal with friends to heading out for date night, there are so many must-visit places for anyone keen to sample the food scene in the city. Visit the Mediterranean with delicious tapas and paella at La Regata and giant pizzas at L’Osteria. Alternatively, if Thai food is your thing, Mango Thai Tapas offers some flavourful dishes. Award-winning Ottoman Kitchen has a menu full of tasty Turkish cuisine, too.
Coffee lovers are spoilt for choice in Southampton. The Nest Coffee House, Muse, and Mettricks Guildhall are all close to St Mary’s, serving quality caffeinated drinks from skilled baristas alongside sweet treats. Mettricks also sells tasty brunch, lunch and cocktails throughout the day and into the evening, and The Nest is popular for their vegan doughnuts!
If you want to supplement your soccer with some culture, you’re in luck! Visitors with a full day to enjoy in Southampton can explore the city’s galleries and museums. Experience cutting-edge exhibitions for free at the John Hansard Gallery and Southampton City Art Gallery, or learn about Southampton’s maritime history at SeaCity Museum.
A walk around the city’s ancient walls and Old Town is always a great way to see some sights and find hidden gems. There are reminders of Southampton’s rich history everywhere you look: for example, popular Westquay and its fleet of restaurants sit opposite some of the most iconic parts of the city walls.
You can even hunt down some creative creatures in the city. Until 25 August 2022, Hares of Hampshire is taking place in Southampton and Winchester, and you can spot the stunning sculptures dotted around our streets. How many can you find?
If ninety minutes of gripping football doesn’t tire you out, there’s still plenty to keep you busy in Southampton.
Grab a ticket to a show at one of our many great theatres. Mayflower Theatre, MAST Mayflower Studios and The Stage Door all have varied programmes of shows running throughout the summer, from West End spectacles to drag acts and more.
Go from one game to another at High Score Arcades, where you can pay for one ticket and get an hour of unlimited access to over 60 video games throughout the day and into the evening.
Alternatively, you could escape from reality and tackle some tricky puzzles at Elusion Escape Rooms and Locked In A Room Southampton; both can be found in the city centre and are a great way to enjoy time with a team of friends.
Southampton also has a thriving live music scene, offering platforms for new artists and much-loved performers alike. The Joiners, Engine Rooms and The 1865 are among our many popular venues, and it’s worth checking to see if they have any gigs scheduled during your stay.
Southampton has plenty of bars and clubs where you can buy a few drinks, have a dance and celebrate (or commiserate!) the final result into the night.
