Southampton City Council has announced the launch of SCN1 – the first route on the Southampton Cycle Network.
SCN1 is a safe, high-quality cycle route that will take you from Totton to Southampton city centre in under 30 minutes. What’s more, a combination of segregated cycle lanes and shared use paths mean that you can now cycle this distance on an almost completely off road route.
The SCN1 also includes a small on-road section along Millbrook Road East, which has seen a number of new traffic calming measures as part of improvements to the route. A mixture of planters, bollards and urban furniture have turned this once busy road into a quiet, attractive street where you can now cycle safely and with confidence.
There are so many benefits to cycling, from saving time and money to keeping fit and doing your bit for the environment. It’s also a great way to explore more of your local area. And with big improvements being made to deliver high quality, safe cycle routes, there’s never been a more exciting time to take up cycling in Southampton.
My Journey – Southampton City Council’s sustainable travel brand – has a range of useful information to help you learn about the SCN1 route and get ready to ride it for yourself. Visit their website where you’ll find a full video of the route, an interactive route map and other helpful resources.
My Journey is also running a competition to win a £100 voucher for the New Forest Water Park. To enter, simply capture yourself on the SCN1, share it on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and include your #No1ReasontoRide. The winner will be announced on the My Journey Facebook page on Monday 2 September. Click here for full terms and conditions. Good luck!
