For 2022, Mother’s Day falls on Sunday 27 March. It’s a chance to celebrate why your mum is so special to you and to make her feel like a queen for the day.
We have lots of inspiration for days out, tempting treats and pampering that you can indulge mum in here in Southampton. Read on to find out more…
What’s better than an afternoon tea? Spend your morning doing a spot of shopping and then relax over an afternoon tea. Opt for your standard afternoon tea with scones, cream, jam, sandwiches and of course tea, or upgrade your experience with a glass or two of Prosecco. Here are just some of the options for afternoon tea experiences in Southampton:
Mettricks have three options available; a cream tea accompanied with a pot of tea, scones and homemade jam for £8.90pp, afternoon tea with the added extra of finger sandwiches and cakes fresh from Mettricks’ own bakery for £17.50pp or an upgraded afternoon tea with a bottle of Prosecco for £22.50pp. Vegan and gluten free options are also available when mentioned at the time of booking.
Traditional afternoon tea is served up at Grand Café. With food freshly baked on the day, there’s an extensive choice of finger sandwiches and options to upgrade with Prosecco or champagne.
The Slug & Lettuce will be running a Mother’s Day weekend on both the Saturday and Sunday with the option of afternoon tea including cocktails or a cheeky bottomless brunch.
Or if your mum loves furniture and homeware, then a visit to IKEA is a must! And of course, stopping off at IKEA's in-store cafe has to be done too.
For the ultimate in pampering treat, why not book a spa visit with mum? Look out for spa days or packages at the luxury Southampton HARSpa & Club within the five-star Southampton Harbour Hotel & Spa or at the Leonardo Royal Hotel Southampton Grand Harbour, which is located closely to Westquay.
Some of our smaller beauty studios may also be offering treatments and packages to spoil mum.
We’ve already touched upon afternoon tea experiences but how about booking lunch at one of our restaurants? Or sample cocktails at some of our renowned cocktail bars. Exclusive and luxury 1932 bar is well-worth a visit (although not open on a Sunday, you could take mum out for some pre-Mother’s Day drinks the night before). Or pop along to Medbar on Oxford Street for bottomless brunch or in the evening, a spot of salsa dancing!
Or why not keep it simple and just head out for a sit down and a chat at one of our cafes? Whether you fancy exploring our Cultural Quarter followed up by a warming drink nearby or a coffee and cake within one of the cafes located within Westquay after doing some shopping (there’s lots of choice including the John Lewis café, Costa Coffee and Krispy Kreme) or grab a takeaway coffee and a sweet treat from Auntie Anne’s Pretzels or Stoneground Donuts.
If you haven’t got one already, then we recommend downloading our SO Card. This free card gives you access to a huge variety of discounts and offers across our city. From money off days out, food and drink, shopping and much more. You may just find some little extras to treat mum with!
We hope we’ve given you lots of ideas for how you can treat the special lady in your life. Whether it’s for your mum, stepmum or someone else significant to you, we wish you a very happy Mother’s Day!
