Mother’s Day may be a bit different to usual this year but there are still some fantastic and unique ways to mark this special occasion. This year, Mother’s Day falls on Sunday 14 March so now’s the time to get planning for the big day. Here are some ideas on how you can celebrate it in Southampton…
There is lots of choice for what you can buy mum this Mother’s Day. Several stores in Southampton are not only making the most of online shopping but also operating a click and collect service. In Westquay, for example, you can do click and collect for some shops which are ideal for gifts for mum – Goldsmiths for their jewellery and Lush for their amazing bath bombs and pampering products to name a few. You can find others operating this service on the Westquay website.
Another option could be to order gift cards which can be used either online or at a later date in-store. With non-essential retail poised to open from 12 April, Mum can look forward to a Southampton shopping trip in the not-too-distant future. Take a look at our retail listings to discover more about the shops that you can find here in Southampton city centre.
Who doesn’t love a tasty treat? You can order mum some food to be delivered to her home so she can enjoy putting her feet up (subject to delivery area and availability). We have a comprehensive list of businesses offering delivery or takeaway service in Southampton. Choose from options such as a traditional Sunday roast takeaway from The Platform Tavern, takeaway afternoon teas from The Grand Café or perhaps delivery of your mum’s favourite food – Indian, Thai, Mexican, Italian… the choice is yours!
Another fun thing to get mum this Mother’s Day is a cake from The Eggfree Cake Box (you can even order a cake with a photo of your mum printed on it!) or perhaps a sweet something from Sprinkles Gelato – ice cream, waffles, crepes and other amazing desserts are all on offer via a click and collect service.
Our immediate plans may be temporarily on hold due to the pandemic however, that doesn’t stop you planning ahead with some fantastic events to look forward to later in the year with mum.
Why not treat mum to some tickets for a future show? The Mayflower Theatre has some great stage shows coming up later in 2021 including Hairspray, 9 to 5 and Chicago as well as some comedy with the likes of Jack Dee and Alan Carr all set to appear in future months. There are also some big names heading to O2 Guildhall later this year including Mo Gilligan, Dan Snow, Katherine Ryan and John Bishop.
It’s also well-worth looking at our accommodation page to find places to stay to make the most of a future visit to our city. From stylish hotels such as The Pig in the Wall and the Southampton Harbour Hotel and Spa through to cosy B&Bs and budget hotels.
We hope we’ve given you some inspiration for your mum’s special day. Don’t forget to keep an eye on #OurSouthampton blog for new and upcoming things happening in the local area and we wish all the mums out there a very happy Mother’s Day!
